Printing Instructions

Please note that the instructions provided here are to be used for guidance only—the exact phases and terminology depend on the installed driver, device model etc.

Upon delivery, our service assistants will install the required print drivers and set up the multifunction device network connection. It is also possible to install a network connection later, if the need arises. For additional information, please contact the University Helpdesk, number 09-1915 5555.

Secure printing

  • Secure printing allows you to define an identification number for your print job before sending it to the print queue.
  • The job cannot be released from the queue unless you enter the correct identification number.
  • Your document stays confidential.
  • This feature does not interrupt other jobs in the print queue.
  • You are able to print your documents when it is most convenient.

Instructions

Print driver:

  • Select the Paper/Output tab.
  • Choose Secure Print from the Job Type drop-down menu.
  • Click the Secure Print Setup button that appears on the right side of the Job Type drop-down menu. Enter and confirm your 4-Digit Secure Print ID and click OK to send your job to the queue.

Document Centre:

  • Press the Töiden tila (Status) button on the touch screen display.
  • Select your print job from the queue and press Vapauta (Release).
  • Enter the 4-Digit Secure Print ID you set when sending your job to the queue.

Delayed printing

  • Delayed printing allows you to set your document to be printed at a specific time.
  • The job is released and printed automatically at the specified time.
  • You can set large documents to be printed at a less busy time to avoid bottlenecks in the print queue.

Instructions

Print driver:

  • Select the Paper/Output tab.
  • Choose Delayed Print from the Job Type drop-down menu.
  • The Time field appears on the right side of the Job Type drop-down menu. Set the preferred time.
  • The job will be printed automatically at the specified time.

Sample set

  • You can print a sample set of your document before printing any additional copies.
  • The rest of the sets are held in the print queue until you either release or delete them after reviewing the sample set.
  • Proofreading and printing a large document is convenient—you only have to queue the job once.
  • This feature saves paper, since any errors that you discover may be corrected before printing additional sets.

Instructions

Print driver:

  • Select the Paper/Output tab.
  • Choose Sample Set from the Job Type drop-down menu.

 

Document Centre:

  • One set will be printed for proofreading purposes.
  • Press the Töiden tila (Status) button on the touch screen display.
  • Select your print job from the queue.
  • If the sample set has no errors, press Vapauta (Release) to print the rest of the copies, or, if you do not want to print more copies, press Poista (Delete).

Two-sided printing

  • N.B. Available only if the device has a two-sided printing feature.
  • You can print two-sided documents.
  • This feature saves paper and archive space, and reduces the amount of wastepaper.
  • Document Centres print two-sided documents as fast as one-sided ones.

Instructions

Print driver:

  • Select the Paper/Output tab.
  • On the right side of the window, choose one of the following when clicking the 2 Sided Printing drop-down menu:
  • 1 Sided, if you want one-sided copies.
  • 2 Sided, Flip on Short Edge (like a calendar).
  • 2 Sided, Flip on Long Edge (like a book).

Collated printing

  • N.B. Available only if the device has a finisher installed.
  • Collated printing makes it possible to collate and staple sets without affecting the print speed.
  • This feature saves time, since copies do not need to be collated and stapled by hand.

Instructions

Print driver:

  • Select the Paper/Output tab.
  • On the right side of the window, choose one of the following when clicking the Output drop-down menu: Uncollated, Collated, or Collated and Stapled.

Covers

  • You can choose different paper for the cover of your document.
  • The job can be either stapled or printed as a vertically-oriented booklet, according to your requirements.
  • The customization options available do not impact speed or productivity.

Instructions

Document Centre:

  • Place the cover material in one paper tray and the paper for the text body in another.

Print driver:

  • Select the Paper/Output tab.
  • By clicking the Select Paper button and, consequently, selecting the Covers and Advanced option, you can select the paper you wish to use for the cover and the text body.

Scaling

  • Scaling allows you to reduce or enlarge your document in order to fit it on the specified paper size. This feature is usually only available in copiers.
  • You can alter the settings on your own PC by using the Document Centre print driver.
  • You can easily adjust the size of your document without having to redesign the layout.

Instructions

Print driver:

  • Select the Image Options tab.
  • Adjust the scaling factor by using the Reduce/Enlarge option.

Booklets

  • N.B. Requires PCL print driver.
  • You can create booklets without having to redesign the document layout.
  • Both size A5 (folded A4) and A4 (folded A3) can be used.
  • The device will automatically collate the pages and print them as a booklet.
  • This feature saves time and money, and offers more design choices when creating documents.

Instructions

Print driver:

  • Select the Layout/Watermark tab.
  • Click the Options drop-down menu and choose Booklet Creation.
  • The Fit To New Paper Size drop-down menu allows you to reduce or enlarge the size of your pages in order to fit them on the new paper size.

Multiple pages per sheet

  • N.B. Requires PCL print driver.
  • Multiple pages can be printed on a single sheet of paper (the exact amount depends on the Document Centre model).
  • This feature reduces the time and paper spent on printing, and offers more document layout choices.

Instructions

Print driver:

  • Select the Layout/Watermark tab.
  • Click the Options drop-down menu and choose the number of pages per sheet.
  • The Fit To New Paper Size drop-down menu allows you to reduce or enlarge the size of your pages in order to fit them on the new paper size.

Printing from diskette

  • You can print PostScript and PCL files (ASCII text files) from a MS-DOS formatted diskette.
  • Printing from your workstation is possible even if the network is offline.
  • Visitors and other people with laptop computers can print without a network connection.

Instructions

Print driver:

  • Adjust the settings in the regular manner.
  • Click Print to File and save the file to a diskette.

 

Document Centre:

  • Insert your diskette into the disk drive.
  • Choose the files you want to print using the touch screen display.
  • Press the green start button.

LAN Fax

  • N.B. Requires fax and LAN fax features.
  • You can fax directly from your PC without printing or having a modem installed.

Instructions

Print driver:

  • Select the Paper/Output tab.
  • Choose Fax from the Job Type drop-down menu.
  • The Fax Setup button appears on the right side of the Job Type drop-down menu.
  • Enter the names and fax numbers of recipients. Adjust other options and enter the cover sheet information. Click OK to send the fax.
